Google Fiber has announced that it will be partnering with the Housing Authority of the City of Austin to provide free Internet to 4,300 residents of Austin public housing. In light of the criticism the company faced in its rollout of fiber in Kansas City, people are beginning to question whether this effort might do a better job at bridging the digital divide.

On Slate, Danielle Kehl looks at the Open Technology Initiative"s recently released Cost of Connectivity report, and finds that the U.S. is doing unfortunately poorly.

Comcast has recently been testing data caps in its plans. BGR examines why the company might be doing that.

Despite all the initial excitement around NYC"s new free public Wi-Fi kiosks, the New York Daily News reports that the Wi-Fi will operate 10 times slower in poorer New York neighborhoods than in the wealthier ones.
